Perched atop a hill and defended by its solid walls rises Manciano. The fortress, built by the Aldobrandeschi family in the 12th century, dominates the old town and allows the incredible view of a succession of hills and plains down to the sea. From this Manciano’s title of “spy of the Maremma”. From this point it is possible to admire possibly the most breathtaking scenery of the Maremma, from the coast of Grosseto, that smoothly winds down to the Argentario promontory. There, behind the promontory crisp and clear lies the island of Giglio, farther down the lagoon of Orbetello. And then Mount Amiata and the surrounding mountains over to Lake Bolsena..
The town of Manciano is the jealous guardian of Saturnia and its famous hot sulfur springs are one of the most popular tourist attractions of Tuscany.
